Unit 4: Feeling understood, effects on the children’s quality of life

This chapter focuses on recapping the proposed strategies for teacher-trainers regarding the cultivation of empathic communication skills to teachers and parents and contains one workshop with 8 activities. The aim of this unit is for the participants to recap the knowledge and check how well they developed their active listening skills/abilities. When adults realize that children have their own opinions, experiences, evaluations and aspirations, which are constructed not only in their interactions with them, but also independently from them, adults can learn from their students/children (Canpolat et al., 2015).


Participants will be able to:

  • Summarize upon active verbal and non verbal listening skills.
  • Practice active listening techniques/communication
  • Reflect on their experiences.
