Module 3: Active listening: A model for teachers and parents to actively listen and act upon children’s concerns in terms of their perceptions of quality of life

Aim of the Module

The aim of this work is to guide teacher-trainers on how to demonstrate empathic communication skills upon children’s concerns in terms of their perceptions of quality of life.

     For this, the training of teachers will be based on the 3 following aspects:

  • Theoretical aspects of empathic active listening,

  • Best practices to teach active listening and communicational skills, and

  • Facilitating parents’ and teachers’ empathetic skills into action.

Objectives of the Module

Teachers and parents will be able to:

  • Explain what active listening means and give some relevant examples of active listening in educational settings.

  • Discuss the consequences of active listening for students’ quality of life.

  • Train participants to use strategies of active listening with their children/students.

  • Present and propose to other teachers ways and means/canals through which they can interact with their students’ parents.

  • Present to other teachers strategies through which their students’ parents could become active listeners of their children’s concerns.
